Six facts about Golgi apparatus

go back to linking page
  • It produces vesicles which carry secretions to the surface of the cell.

  • Some modification can take place before substances are secreted.

  • An example of an animal cell with many Golgi bodies is an epithelial cell that secretes mucus.

  • The cell wall of plant cells is exported to the outside of the membrane by Golgi bodies.

Vesicles are small membrane-bound structures containing materials for export. They combine with the outer cell membrane, releasing their contents. Epithelial cells form lining layers.
